The sounds-combination «em» of the first syllable «dem» and the sound «ye» of the second syllable «dem» were shortened and discounted and an easier sounded name Ddmashen was formed.

Yervand Lalayan gives the following explantion for the name Ddmashen:

«...Here once much was grown, that`s why it was called Ddmashen». Lalayan was told an invented and simple explantion spread in thoze times around the name of the village.

Yervand Lalayan wrote that the village was also called Gharakeshish. It was not right. Many centuries ago after Azaria deacon and writer Toomai, when in the pages of bibliography the name of the village was essentaly corrected and it was preserved in the conditions of permanent populating, the fact of seeking the second name is senseless. There is no source that could affirm that Ddmashen was ever called Gharakeshish. According to the tradition persians had once ruled over Ddmashen. While taking water from the rive by the pails the inhabitants had often kept fish in the water. That was the cause of the name of the village Doodmashen. Doodma in persian means fish. This tradition is not adminttable, as the persians could not say the half of the village name in persian (doodma) and the other half in armenian (shen). It is an infented name. Then name of the village had centuries ago been Ddmashen and hasn`t overcome soundchanges, it is impossible to invent a new name with a help of artificial soundchanging.
